| Students transferring to Eastern Kentucky University from a Kentucky
Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) institution may now qualify
for a new scholarship.
To qualify, a first-time transfer student must:
- transfer from a KCTCS institution
- have completed a total of at least 24 hours of course work at a KCTCS
institution
- have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on all post-secondary work at
the time of transfer
Each scholarship will be valued at half the in-state tuition costs and
will be renewable for up to six consecutive semesters. To maintain the
scholarship, a recipient must maintain good academic standing and a cumulative
GPA of 2.5 while continuously enrolled as a full-time student at EKU.
Any students who drop out and later return to EKU will lose the scholarship.
"With the addition of several 2+2 transfer agreements and the opening
earlier this year of the first Transfer Center on a university campus
in Kentucky, EKU had already moved to make the transition for our transfer
students as convenient and seamless as possible," President Joanne
Glasser said. "Now, with this scholarship, we're making a transfer
to EKU more affordable as well."
Approximately 700 students transfer each academic year to EKU from a
KCTCS institution, more than any other regional university in Kentucky.
In total, about a third of EKU's undergraduate students in any given year
have transferred from another institution, including out-of-state community
colleges and other colleges and universities, according to Dr. E.J. Keeley,
Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management.
"Eastern has come to be a favorite destination for transfer students
looking to complete a baccalaureate degree," Glasser said. "The
transfer process is easy, and students know they'll be warmly welcomed
here and receive a quality education."
