PLUS Handbook
Roles & Responsibilities of Mentors

The Eastern Kentucky University PLUS/Mentoring Program was designed to increase student retention and create a more interactive, inclusive and responsive University campus. Serving as a mentor carries certain serious responsibilities, such as:

  1. Providing personal assistance to students participating in the PLUS/Mentoring Program.
  2. Serving as a resource and referral person for the mentee.
  3. Serving as the mentee's role model, friend and confidante.
  4. Assisting the development of skills necessary for mentees to be successful in college.
  5. Motivating students toward achieving academic success.
  6. Maintaining confidentiality.
  7. Networking with other mentors (students and faculty).
  8. Helping improve the self-esteem and self-confidence of mentees.
  9. Creating success through caring.
  10. Celebrating successes and discussing failures.
