PLUS Program Code of
Conduct

All information discussed with your mentor
will be held in strict confidence.

PLUS mentors should maintain the highest professional
standards.

PLUS mentors will inform mentee when they feel
they are not competent to provide counsel in a specific area.
Remember referral tactics noted in the handbook.

PLUS partners will be straightforward and candid
with clients.

Eastern Kentucky University requires PLUS Partners
to observe the highest standards of professional conduct and
ethical behavior in all their activities.

By maintaining these standards, PLUS Partners
enhance their reputation as effective mentors and increase confidence
in the skills and conduct of higher education institutions.
As the conduct of an individual Mentor can reflect upon the
wider profession of The PLUS Program and the Institute's integrity
as a whole, the Code sets out what are deemed to be appropriate
standards of professional conduct.

Mentors are required to uphold the University's
Charter and comply with the By-laws.

Mentors are required to exercise integrity,
honesty and diligence in carrying out their duties and responsibilities.

Mentors shall at all times be aware of their
responsibilities as professional people toward the wider community.

Mentors shall at all times safeguard the interests
of the University, other mentors or mentees, provided that PLUS
Partners shall not knowingly be a party to any illegal or unethical
activity.

Mentors shall not enter into any agreement or
undertake any activity which may be in conflict with the legitimate
interest of the University or mentee or which would prejudice
the performance of their professional duties.

Mentors shall not use any confidential information
obtained in the performance of their duties for personal gain
nor in a manner which would be detrimental to the University,
client or any other party.

Mentors shall refrain from conduct or action
which detracts from the reputation of the Institute.

***The Eastern Kentucky University PLUS Program
was designed based on research focused on EKU's student population
and prior basic research conducted by the Office of Retention. In
addition, The PLUS Program is loosely based on successful mentoring
programs from other institutions such as Ohio State University,
University of Pennsylvania, Michigan State University, University
of California at Los Angeles, Humboldt State University, Central
Queensland University, Syracuse University, Texas A & M, University
at Albany, Penn State and University of Missouri.
