New General Studies Degrees

As of Fall 2005, each of EKU's five colleges will offer a General Studies major. Students graduating with this major will receive a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in General Studies. Students pursuing this degree must complete 18 hours of course work offered by the college that will confer the degree. Courses taken to satisfy General Education requirements will NOT be applied to these 18 hours. In addition these students must satisfy standard University requirements as follows (these are described in more detail in the Undergraduate Catalog, p. 46):

  • Completion of any Pre-College Curriculum (PCC) and/or developmental course requirements;
  • Completion of General Education and University course requirements;
  • Complete a minimum of 128 semester credit hours, with at least 43 hours at the 300 level or above;
  • Satisfy the University Writing Requirement (UWR);
  • A 2.00 GPA in EKU work at the 100 level and above in courses attempted for grade, whether or not used toward meeting degree requirements;
  • An overall GPA of 2.00 or higher in combined transfer work and EKU work;
  • At least 32 hours to be counted toward graduation must be taken at EKU;
  • At least 30 of the last 36 hours must be taken at EKU;
  • No more than 25% of courses offered through EKUBusiness and/or business courses (courses commonly taught in a school of business) transferred from other institutions, or taken from other units within EKU will be credited toward the degree.

Restrictions

  • General Studies can not be a second major;
  • Students in the General Studies major may not declare a second major, minor, certificate or endorsement.
