Financial Appeals may be submitted if a student has an unforeseeable and unavoidable situation during the semester the charges were incurred that prevented them from attending classes and completing the semester. All appeal letters should be submitted by the student in writing clearly stating the reason for the appeal. Documentation should be attached to all appeal letters to validate the situation. Circumstances that do NOT qualify for financial appeal include pre-existing conditions, routine pregnancy, employment opportunities and financial hardship, including denial of financial aid. In most cases, any refund that is the result of an approved appeal will be returned to the source of the payment, either the student, the financial aid lender or a third party entity. Financial Appeals should be submitted to the Financial Appeals Committee at SSB CPO 60, 521 Lancaster Ave, Richmond, KY 40475.
Advise the student to write a letter and document the situation (in this case perhaps something from the professor and the advisor) and mail it to the address above. |

Please be aware of an important change for our students. This week, the TCAC (Writing-Intensive) Advisory Board and the CAA both voted to waive the requirement of the writing-intensive course for students who graduate by December 2009. Therefore, the students who are exempt from the writing requirement are as follows:
*** those who entered prior to Fall '07 (that is, those whose requirements are set by an earlier catalogue)
*** those who transfer into EKU fully gen-ed certified
*** those who have an associate degree
*** those who will graduate at the end of December '08, May '09, summer '09, and December '09.
Please note that exemption has now been extended to those graduating in December '09. CARES reports will still show the requirement, but a waiver will be given at the time of graduation.
Note that this is an alteration of the requirement as stated on p. 50 of the '08-'09 catalogue.
Also, please be aware that the TCAC Advisory Board and the CAA have agreed that students may satisfy the requirement by taking a Writing-Intensive course in their major, instead of a general-education Writing-Intensive course. Such major-area courses must be approved by the TCAC Advisory Board. |

The Retention Scholarship is a fund established to help retain EKU students that have completed their freshman year and have committed to returning to EKU in the fall of the next year. Data has shown that if a student returns and completes their second year of college, their likelihood of graduating is significantly greater. With this in mind and in an effort to encourage students to remain in school, a scholarship was established to provide awards to select students that meet the necessary criteria. We, as an Institution, care about the general welfare and needs of our students and want to recognize our student achievers.
Please Click on the following link for all the complete information about the Retention Scholarship: http://www.scholarships.eku.edu/awards/others/retention/ |

Please keep in mind any students that enter the University in fall 2007 or after are required to complete a Writing Intensive Course. You can check the students CARES report to see if they need the Writing Intensive requirement. Below is the requirement per the 08/09 catalog:
Writing Intensive General Education Courses
All baccalaureate degree seeking students who enter the University in fall 2007 or later are required to successfully complete one writing intensive general education course following
completion of ENG 102, ENG 105 or HON 102. Students are strongly encouraged to complete their writing intensive general education course before the conclusion of their second year of
study. Writing intensive general education courses are designated with the suffix "W" following the course prefix and number (e.g. HUM 300W). W and non-W versions of the same course (e.g. HUM 300W and HUM 300) are considered equivalent for the purposes of satisfying course requirements for prerequisites, major courses, minor courses, and supporting courses. Credit will not be awarded for W and non-W versions of the same course. Transfer students who are (full) general education certified and students who have earned any associates degree (including AAS) and baccalaureate degrees are not required to complete a writing intensive general education course.
Listed below are the courses that have been approved to fulfill this requirement:
PHI 240W: Philosophy of Religion
REL 301W, World Religions
HIS 204W, Historical Inquiry
PSY 200W, Introduction to Psychology
