The following changes have been made in the advising book on the N drive (all changes effective for fall 2008):
Arts and Sciences:
Geography: Minors in Community and Regional Planning, Natural Resource Geography, and Geotechniques discontinued, new minor Geographic Information Systems (GIS) (not open to Geography majors) replaces Geotechniques.
Music Merchandising dropped, replaced by Emphasis in Music Industry (BM_MUS_MUSI)
Justice and Safety:
Emergency Medical Care, new option Emergency Services Administration (BS_EMC_EMSA)
Fire and Safety Engineering, drop option in Safety and Industrial Relations
University Programs:
Minor in Women's Studies now Women and Gender Studies (WGS)
Certificate in Women's Studies now Women and Gender Studies (CERTL_WGS)
Due to content changes, fall 2008 will be the last term ARH390 and 391 will be available for block III-A. These courses will continue to fill block 7-AH. The courses will appear with effective dates in the select from list on the CARES reports for block III-A until this fall when they will then be "hidden". ARH391 and REL301 will have writing intensive sections beginning spring 2009.

Per Dr. Biermann in the Physics department: 3/2 engineering students are better served by being in the Engineering Physics option (J48) rather than being in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, none of which is in the catalog or has ever had any CAA approval. We are still waiting to hear from Dr. Schick on Chemical Engineering.

Beginning fall 2008, students will register to take the University Writing Requirement (UWR) by contacting the Office of Academic Testing at 859-622-1281. Students NO LONGER register for the UWR as they would a class via EKU Direct. Please inform your advisees whose CARES report reflects the requirement about the new registration process. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Office of Academic Testing.

Those who advise Undeclared students will want to update your reference catalogs to reflect the following major/minor changes:
- Anthropology, Sociology and Social Work: New minor – Social Institutions and Social Changes
- Computer Science: New major options in:
- Bioinformatics
- Interactive Multimedia
There should be links to curriculum guides for these on the Majors Web page in the near future. (They are currently available on the CSC web page.)
- Humanities: New major in Comparative Humanities (if you have students inquiring about a "liberal arts" degree, the Humanities Web page refers to it as such).
- Exercise & Sports Science: Sport Management is now a separate major. It used to be an option in the P.E. degree.
- Health Education: The only certificate still offered by this dept. is Medical Coding. It now has additional course work of: MAS 360 (4), MAS 370 (1), and either CIS 212 or CSC 104 (3).
- Correctional & Juvenile Justice Studies:
- A.A., Correctional & Juvenile Justice Studies has been suspended
- Youth Work Certificate Program is replaced with Professional Certificate in Youth Services
- Fire & Safety Engineering Technology: A.A. degree has been suspended

After scrutinizing recent CAA approvals, here are some items that will affect how we advise Undeclared students:
- Teacher certification majors (as of 200850):
- To meet the oral and written communication requirement in lieu of the UWR, use ENG 101, 102 and CMS 100 or 210 with a grade of "C" or higher in each course OR ENG 105 with a grade of "B" or higher (a grade of "C" and ENG 102 may be used) or HON 102.
- Eliminate the computer literacy requirement
- HUM courses (as of 200850)
- HUM 124 – No longer has previously stated restrictions as to who can take the course
- HUM 300 – prerequisites eliminated
